Recycle

Recycling is the process by which waste with a certain value is transformed into raw material for the manufacture of new products. As well as having a positive impact on the environment, recycling also benefits the economy.
Environmental benefits:

Paper and cardboard recycling:

Because it is made from renewable and biodegradable sources, corrugated cardboard is by nature a circular material. Packaging solutions using paper and board are 100% recyclable, making them an inspiration for other packaging materials. A study by the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) has also shown that one of the properties of corrugated board is that it is biodegradable and compostable. The pulp and paper industry has long been subject to controversy because of the unregulated or illegal logging required to produce wood pulp. However, virgin pulp is only a small part of the raw materials for papermaking, as waste paper and board will account for over 98% of raw materials in 2021. However, corrugated board is made from at least three layers of paper, which may have different virgin fibre content. Sometimes a higher virgin fibre content is needed to increase the strength of the packaging and to ensure maximum product protection.

The circular economy is business as usual for the corrugated packaging industry.
Today’s corrugated packaging is perfectly circular: it is 100% recyclable, renewable and biodegradable. In fact, corrugated packaging is one of the most recycled paper products in use today, with a well-established market for secondary raw materials. Efficient recycling processes allow fibres to be reused for new packaging. Recycled paper provides 89% of the raw material for new corrugated boxes – ensuring the continued life of the fibres while making a valuable contribution to the economy.
Recycling keeps materials like paper and board alive for a long time.

Corrugated packaging is the example of the perfect circle: packaging is collected after use, sorted and sent to the paper mill for recycling to become paper and board for new packaging.
This happens again and again: corrugated packaging is collected and recycled all over Europe. It does not need to be transported back to the original manufacturer/distributor. Paper and board packaging are already recycling champions, with a recycling rate of 84.21%.
Using recycled paper as a raw material optimises resource use and reduces environmental impact: corrugated packaging has on average 89.2% recycled content. Recycling packaging keeps valuable materials in the loop and prevents incineration and landfill.
The circular economy needs reuse to prevent waste (where possible) and recycling to keep the value of materials in the loop.
In addition to excellent recycling characteristics, corrugated packaging offers additional benefits:
